About Us
Four generations of the Sherwood family relocated from their vast NJ farming operation and began farming in Maxwelton, WV, Greenbrier Co. in 1965. We continued our very established herds of cattle, flocks of sheep and Heritage Swine. Once farming on the barrier islands of CT and RI, selling in the markets of Manhatten, the open lands of WV became the new roots of what has continued to be a very successful family farming operation. You will also find a large herd of Angus and Angus cross cattle on SFF, a cow / calf operation which also produce the calves for Swift Level Land and Cattle. Good husbandry and respect are key at SFF, where animals have room to roam freely on over 400 acres of a managed pasture/forage system.
We practice managed pasture/forages for optimum soil, grass and animal health, produce our own hay which is a key feed component.
We do not purchase commodity feeds. Our Hogs have shelter, bedding, constant source of clean water and pasture to graze and move about freely.
Our cattle are moved about on pasture boundaries, in keeping with what nature has in store for us using the best environmental practices to insure herd health. We do not feed or administer hormone implants
We practice water and land conservation.
We care about the treatment and life of our animals.
